Your Guide to Dental Exams and Checkups in Sandy Springs
A checkup is not a formality. It is the appointment where problems get found while they are still small, cheap, and painless to fix.

Why a checkup is worth the hour
A bright smile takes more than good toothpaste. Regular exams and cleanings are what keep small problems from becoming large ones, and they are the reason most people get to keep their own teeth for life.
Nothing about a cavity hurts until it is deep. Gum disease is painless until it has already cost you bone. By the time a problem announces itself, the cheap window has closed. That is the whole argument for coming in twice a year even when nothing feels wrong.
What happens at the appointment
- We examine your teeth and gums. We are looking for early decay, gum inflammation, wear from grinding, and anything that has changed since your last visit.
- We take digital X-rays. These show what the eye cannot: decay between teeth, infection at the root, bone levels around each tooth.
- We clean your teeth. Professional cleaning removes the hardened tartar that brushing cannot shift, which is what gum disease grows under.
- We talk about your routine. Brushing technique, flossing, and diet all show up in your mouth, and small adjustments make a measurable difference.
- We answer whatever you came in with. Sensitivity, bad breath, a tooth that looks different, whitening — bring it up. That is what the appointment is for.
What to expect from us
Dr. Choy has practiced in Atlanta for over 19 years, and the way she works has not changed: explain what is happening, explain the options, and let you decide. You will not be told about a treatment plan after the fact, and you will not be asked to commit to anything from the chair.
If dental visits make you anxious, say so when you book. It changes how we pace the appointment, and it is far more common than people assume.
Book your checkup
Call us to schedule an exam and cleaning. If it has been a while, that is fine — it is a reason to come in, not a reason to put it off further.
