Dental Crowns in Sandy Springs, GA
Custom caps that restore a compromised tooth's strength, function, and appearance — often in a single visit.
Have you chipped a tooth, had extensive decay, or been through a root canal? Those situations leave a tooth weakened and vulnerable. Crowns — also called dental caps — are custom-made restorations that encase the entire visible portion of a tooth and act as a protective shield.
When a crown is the answer
- Severe damage. Cracks, fractures, or extensive chipping leave a tooth vulnerable to further breakage and infection.
- Decay. Deep cavities that cannot be addressed with a filling need a more comprehensive solution.
- After root canal therapy. A treated tooth becomes brittle and needs a crown for strength and protection.
- Cosmetic concerns. Discoloration, misshapen teeth, and uneven smiles can be addressed with crowns.
Materials
Porcelain is known for natural-looking aesthetics that blend seamlessly with surrounding teeth, and is a popular choice for front teeth. Ceramic looks similar and offers excellent durability, suitable for both front and back teeth. Metal alloys are highly durable and often used for back teeth that take significant wear, though their appearance is not ideal for every patient.
The procedure
- Consultation. Dr. Choy assesses the tooth’s condition, discusses your concerns, and recommends the most suitable material.
- Tooth preparation. A small amount of enamel is removed to create space for the crown.
- Impression. An impression of the prepared tooth and its neighbours is taken so the crown fits precisely.
- Placement. The crown is cemented onto the tooth.
Because Aura Dental Studio has an in-house crown device, many crowns are designed, milled, and seated in one appointment — no temporary crown, no return visit.
Benefits
- Strength and durability. Crowns significantly reinforce a compromised tooth, preventing further damage and potential loss.
- Improved function. You can chew comfortably and speak clearly without worrying about the tooth breaking.
- Better appearance. Discoloration, chips, and shape are addressed at the same time.
- Long-lasting. With proper care, crowns last many years.
